It was impressive to witness Darryl’s ability to simultaneously deal with a range of children’s needs, teach them various art techniques, keep them interested in the processes, and plan and present new and different projects and ideas in each class, all in his very even-keeled and calmly enthusiastic manner. He did all of this while nurturing the artistic gems that arise from the happy accidents naturally occurring during the creative process. Darryl’s point of view added a sense of style that elevated his projects to a level beyond so many of the run-of-the-mill kid’s art classes.

Beyond his expertise in various art forms, Darryl has an amazing presence as an instructor, particularly in a creative arts setting. He is very knowledgeable and has an amazing ability to guide students in a way that shows them the techniques being used while simultaneously allowing the students themselves to take control of the creative process itself. He is also very thoughtful and thorough in his class preparation which allows the focus and flow of the class to stay organized and proceed smoothly.

Mr. Blood is truly a gem in our family's life. He has been working with my eldest child since he was about three years old and now, three years later I have seen Mr. Blood's approach to art guidance change as my son's skills develop and interests shift. One of the traits that I love about Darryl as an art teacher is his constant awareness to keep the art open to the child's imagination. Darryl strongly emphasizes how anything and everything could be used for art. He really does live by the motto that there are no mistakes in art, therefore his students feel very free to create without any judgement.

Darryl has a knack for interacting with children on their level. I feel that he understands how they think and took time to create projects that this age group would really enjoy and succeed at. His demeanor is very warm and welcoming, and my daughter and I looked forward to going to class each week. We hope to attend more classes with him in the future!

Thank you Darryl for offering such a fabulous class. It is so wonderful that the kids are able to work on their art at their own pace while coming and going from play. The park is just the perfect setting. Jack takes such pride in showing everyone what he made when we get home and I am always inspired to think of what else we can create throughout the week.

I took the Make Art class this summer with my almost two year old daughter; she talked about the class all week long and still hopefully suggests that that be our destination whenever we get in the car. It was great to meet at a park as taking breaks to swing and slide suited her attention span perfectly. Darryl came up with fun projects that used a variety of media and skills. My daughter enjoyed getting into the glue and paint- again the park was an ideal spot! I framed some of her pictures to give as gifts but ended up keeping them for myself! Thanks Darryl, we had a great time.

Scarlett loved handling all of the materials during Make Art and her confidence was boosted by Darryl's gentle, age-appropriate instruction. We always went home with something truly special in hand, and we were able to repeat favorite projects on our own on rainy days.

We love Darryl's Make Art class! One of the best parts of the course is that children are given the freedom to explore, experience, and use the materials in the way that feels best for them... no cookie-cutter, stay-within-the-lines art projects here! The structure of the class and outdoor environment give the kids the opportunity to "play with all their new ideas" when the project is over. Darryl's creative ideas and small class sizes ensure that each child gets the attention they need to stay engaged in the projects. We plan to return for more sessions soon!

My kids loved the combination of art and play and I appreciated Teacher Darryl’s encouragement when students experimented with new materials and processes. I loved making fairy crowns and masks as much as my kids did.
