What to expect...

Our MAKE ART classes have been held outdoors, which combines the magic of nature, with the beauty of natural light and color. By using recycled materials, we encourage resourcefulness, and stimulate the imagination and fine motor skills through expressive art. Children will experience fundamental art skills through various mediums, including sculpture, painting, watercolors, collage and printmaking.

All children must be accompanied by an adult, as this is a hands on/total participation class for both children and adults. The age range is 2-7 years old. Materials used will often include glue and/or washable paint, so old clothes are encouraged, but for your convenience, art smocks will be made available.

Each art class is child lead, allowing for self-directed discovery and open ended creativity. Each parent is encouraged to join their child at the table as a creative team, sharing in the total experience. Unlike most instructor driven art classes, MAKE ART believes that there is no right or wrong way to teach or make art, let the children decide! The atmosphere is low key and the pace is totally driven by the children's motivations, so you should never feel rushed. I think it's important that the children have a chance to take breaks if they feel the need, and then return to the table when they are feeling more focused. My role is to be the facilitator, providing the tools, resources and environment that will inspire the creators. In many ways, I consider these more like workshops, where parent and child come together to accomplish their goals and explore freely.
